Gameday! Fire in the Hole!

Sharks v Flames

Tonight at 6pm

While last night's game against didn't net the Sharks a win, it did show signs of improvement over the past 3 previous loses. Now I know that's not what everyone wants; we all want a win and we want it now dammit! But these sorts of slumps aren't solved like that. There is no easy button. It took more than one game to work ourselves into this mess and it will take more than one game to work our way back out. Them's the facts, folks.

At times like these I think it's best to turn to great literature and heed the advice of past sages.

I have painted letters that small. It's really difficult.

Anyway, where was I?

Oh yes!

Stop with the Chicken Little BS! Please!  Every season, at some point, people start to freak the eff out and claim the sky is falling, woe is us, all is lost, blah blah blah blah insertsomethingaboutthecuphere. I sometimes feel like we're the only team who gets more fans when they preform poorly than we do when they preform well. As soon as we hit a bump in the road, all these crazy people come out of the woodwork to shit on the Sharks. Much like the local news media, I ask you all, where were you for the other 60+ games this season? Where are all you debbie downer's coming from and can you please go back there because you're fantastically unhelpful.

They also use the same damn lines every single season. Make up new material, then come commenting. New material is not defined as replacing "Ron Wilson" with "Todd McLellan." Just so you know.

Can we get over ourselves here? I understand being frustrated by poor play. We're all frustrated with how the Sharks are doing, even if some of us chose to be more optimistic about it than others. I know it sucks that it seems like the Sharks don't care, that they aren't saying the "right things" to the media, but I learned awhile ago that hockey player rarely say what they're thinking to the media, with only a handful of exceptions. If we're all this frustrated and we're NOT on the ice, my guess is the players are just as frustrated if not more so. Just because they keep that inside the locker room doesn't mean they aren't upset.

It's cool to be upset and it's cool it make jokes about it, but sometimes it feels like everyone just starts to go nuts when the Sharks lose. Suddenly it's not just a regular season lost it's a season-ender. That's it, we lost 4 in a row, season's done, everyone go home.

Did we get to the playoffs early and no one told me? Because last I checked we had still have 10+ games left before we need to start worrying about elmination games. I don't necessarily buy that poor play now will lead to poor play later. It might, and then it might not. I just don't know.

It's like the idea of not finishing first burns or something. The Sharks aren't earning that first place spot, so if they drop it, they deserve that fate. Being 4th isn't terrible in this case. Maybe they need that experience, who knows? I know I don't need them to finish first in the division. It's nice, but what is it getting us besides home ice? 8 teams qualify from either conference. 8. As long as they are one of the 8, that's all that matters. I know there's all that stuff about looking at which seeds win Cups, but I find that entirely too presumptuous. We need to get there first. Get to round 1, then round 2, round 3, etc. Don't count your playoff chickens before they hatch. It's not good for your heart, your sanity, or your blood pressure.

Or mine.

Go Sharks!
