So, after the game went into the shootout, I had this post all worked out for today. It was going to be titled "Ten Things I Hate More Than A Loss To The Wings." The shootout is such a crap shoot and based on this season's record against the Wings, I wasn't sure it was going to go the Sharks way. But it did. I cheered so loudly, I'm pretty sure the next zip code heard me. Patty Marleau is a beast and a god.
So, because of that glorious, fantastic, amazing shoot out win, I now present to you "Ten Thins I Hate More Than a Loss To The Columbus Blue Jackets"
1. Stubbing my toe
2. Dropping something on my foot
3. Hitting my head on the desk, cabinet, counter, etc as I stand up
4. Stepping in cat puke
5. Hearing the cat puke
6. Finding that the cats shed a cling on poop on the floor
7. Finding that the cats shed a cling on poop in the bed
8. Smacking my shins on anything
9. The hilarious painful feeling when you hit your funny bone. It's funny, sure, but those aren't tears of joy you're crying.
I could probably come up with 15 things in all honest, but that's a pretty good list right there. As you can probably guess, not only do I tend to stub my toes a lot, I have cats. Cats puke. Cats also do stupid things like eating hair, which causes poop to get stuck on the hair and dangle around as the way, inevitably leading to them doing the dry scrap across the nearest convenient surface.
This is why nature made them cute. High effective defense mechanism.
Getting back to the Wings, it wasn't the most perfect game ever last night. The Sharks sat back a several time last night and allowed the Wings to dictate the play. The Wings had 50 shots on goal, which means they spent a lot of time getting to know Nabby by swarming around his net and parking themselves in front of him and being a general nuisance. I know it comes with the job, but I doubt any kid signs up to play goalie thinking to themselves "If I make it to the NHL, I'll get to stare at dudes butts all day!"
Then again, maybe they do. Who knows.
Turn overs were once again an issue. Again, guys, tasty pastry item but not good in hockey games.
The penalty calls were 6-2 in favor of the Wings. We all know the Wings get away with a lot in their building, but when you call stuff against the Sharks that you don't call against the other team, it bugs me. Call it even, or don't call it at all. I don't much care who just cross checked Joe Thornton, stick his butt in the box.
Until his SO winner, Patty had a pretty quite night. He scores'um when it counts, kids.
Clowe played like a man inspired. Really enjoyed watching him last night.
Wallin got his first point as a Shark and Helminen got his first goal as a Shark. I think he had his first ever NHL goal last year with Carolina.
Nabby made 50 saves AND set a new record for road wins. A new record for road wins by an NHL goalie. Evgeni Nabokov is not a fraud.
Howard looked really good down at the other end for the Wings. Dude made some great saves. It was a pleasure to watch two very skilled goal tenders duke it out.
Sharks have another hard match up tomorrow afternoon in Buffalo. It's the last before the Olympic Break. The games will definitely be on the minds of every player on the ice, regardless of if their going to Vancouver, or going on vacation. We'll have to watch and see how everything shakes out.
