A Change Would Do Us Good (APRIL FOOLS!)
Man, last night's game was terrible. I mean just horrible. Steve Ott got a hat trick?! That is like some curse wrought down upon the league by some malevolent hockey god who really likes douchebags. When Steve Ott scores, nobody wins. Except maybe Dallas. Dammit Dallas!
We've been spending a lot of time lately trying to put some of the harder to swallow games of this season into perspective. Comparing and contrasting between seasons past, looking for trends, realizing that the answer to the Sharks puzzling play must be out there somewhere. Sports are just random and they will continue to be so, but surely there would be some quantifiable evidence to show why the Sharks are so inconsistent from one game to the next.
In the course of our research we started to notice things. Little trends here and there. Trends that concerned us. That made us pause. Trends that ultimately lead to one of the biggest decisions we've ever made.
Do you know how hard it is to be a fan of a team like the San Jose Sharks? A team that excels at the regular season only to collapse into a huge pile of suck at the end? A team that can't get past the damn second round? Hell, first round now! A team that constantly chokes on its own greatness? What does it matter that we have Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau? They're never going to get us the Cup! Nabby? pfft. Whatever. He has a five hole the size of Miami. Greiss isn't anywhere NEAR ready to take the reigns, our D is, as a whole, useless, and the team can't even put together a full 60 minutes 76 games into the season?! WTF GUYS. I didn't pay for this. I didn't becoming a Shark Pak holder to watch you all wank off on the ice and lose the division lead to some other team just because you got tired and didn't feel like playing anymore. I'm not even sure I want to watch you guys anymore. And god, I already paid for my 1st round playoff tickets. Amazingly I'll still get to use them but I maybe I'll just sell them now, while I still can. While I can still make a buck off them. Is it so hard to live up to your skill level? Is it really that hard to shoot the damn puck? To get it on net? And not OUR net either, the other team's net. Why are you still globe trotting?! You're supposed to be the best there is and you can't get off your asses and get riled up to go fight Ott after he messed with Marleau last game? Why aren't you standing up for each other? WTF ARE YOU DOING?! It ain't playing good hockey, I know that for damn sure.
We just can't keep doing this. There's not point. It will always be the same thing, every year. Disappointment followed by yet another heart breaking and soul crushing disappointment. It doesn't matter where the Sharks finish or what they do. Every season will always end the same. So we're getting out. We're done. This is too frustrating and there's just no point anymore.
We love blogging though, and we know we can't just leave it cold turkey, so we took stock and decided to move onto a different sport. One that could use some more promotion.
Arena football.
Yes, arena football! It's back and better than ever! Don't believe me? Look here. All the information on the reformation and rebuilding of the world's finest indoor football league.
After spending a good deal of time research the league and its teams, we settled on become fans of the Jacksonville Sharks. I know, I know, but we have all this existing Sharks artwork queued up and it'd be a shame to let it go to waste. Why not make the best of a bad situation? Besides, recycling is good for you and good for the planet.
Now obviously, being west coast based fans on and east coast based team isn't ideal, but starting with the 2010 inaugural season. the NFL Network will be carrying arena football games. So we're totally getting that asap. It's expensive but I just took this part time gig down on The Row to help pay for it. It's totally worth it. We're totally going to be there for the first home game too. It's going to be amazing.
So, until arena football season starts, all we have to say is Go (Jacksonville) Sharks!
Oh and happy April Fool's Day!
